Helea Love, Virginia Beach, appeared before Coun(@il regarding the tax on income of the Hotel and Motel owners. Mrs. C. E. Hitchcock, a mother, a good PTAer, and a concerned citizen appeared before Council in support of the school budget. Mary Osterhotise appeared before Council in stippol,t of the school budget. Dr. Miles asked that "we not oi,,erdue spending fancv money for fancy equipment lvh we ayen't paying enough to get good leac ers. Exaniples: a gym and classroom telel@isioll. Mrs, Marlow stated that shc did -not want to differ wit Dr. Myles but she does not consider the gym at Kings Gr(ait to be a frill. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA: That Section 33-12, of the Virginia Beach City Code, is hereby amended to provide that the utility tax imposed thereby shall be 20% of the charge in lieu of 15% as now provided. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that Section 33-21 of the Virginia Beach City Code, is hereby amended to provide that the rate of tax shall be 12% in lieu of 9% as is currently provided, and further, that the tax imposed by this provision shall not be imposed on any portion of a monthly charge that exceeds four hundred dollars. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that Section 33-24, of the Virginia Beach City Code, is hereby amended to provide that the tax from the sale of cigarettes shall be two and one-half cents for each ten cigarettes, or fractional number of ten cigarettes.
