AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO THE COLLECTION OF G~RBAGE IN PRINCESS ANNE COUNTY, VIRGINIA. BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Supervisors of Princess Anne County: SECTION 1. To secure and promote the health, safety and general welfare of the inhabitants of Princess .~nne County, the following shall be observed in connection with the dumping and removal of garbage in said County. (1) For the purpose of the collection of garbage, the County shall be divided into such districts as the Board of Super- visors shall determine. (2) The occupant or owner of every house or other prem- ises, including all places of business, hotels and restaurants, shall be responsible for the cleanliness and sanitary condition of the premises including sidewalks, by the regular removal of all refuse which shall be placed in durable receptacles as hereinafter described, and shall have said receptacles placed inside the curb line only on such days and at such ho~rs as shall be designated by the Board of Supervisors of Princess %nne County, said recep- tacles shall not be placed on any street or sidewalk. (3) Garbage shall be deposited in metallic receptacles only, having a capacity of not more than twenty gallons each nor weighing more than fifty (50) pounds when full. Each such recep- tacle shall have a tight fitting cover. Cover must be kept on container at all times except when being filled or emptied. Gar- bage may be wrapped in paper before being deposited in the proper container. (4) All receptacles must be kept in good physical con- dition by the occupant or owner of the premises to prevent waste and leakage. Leaky, flimsy or defective receptacles will be re- ported to the occupant by such person as is authorizod by the Board of Supervisors of Princess Anne County, and if, after such notice, such receptacles shall be again used without proper re- pairs the occupant shall be subject to the penalty hereinafter provided. (5) All receptacles shall be removed by the occupant into the premises as soon as practicable after they have been emptied. GARBAGE 0RDIN~NCE Page 2. (6) No garbage or refuse of any kind shall be dumped in any lot or space within the county for the purpose of filling or any other purpose without first having made application as set forth in the ordinance entitled "DEBRIS ORDINANCE" Paragraph 2, Section on Permits. (7) It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to collect, renove, haul or carry away, or interfere in any way with any refuse deposited for collection other than the duly authorized personnel. SECTION 2. The term "garbage" as used in this ordinance shall be construed to mean house and kitchen offal, and all refuse matter composed of animal or vegetable substance~ SECTiOn? 3o After this ordinance shall become effective, it shall be unlawful for the occupant or owner of any such prem- ises to have, maintain, or keep any garbage on any premises except in such garbage containers as provided for in this ordinance. Said occupants or owners shall also keep clean and free from rubbish and similar loose material his premises, as well as all open lots adjacent to such premises and under his control. SECTION 3&. Industrial waste and refuse v~ill not be allowed to be collected by the Sanitation Department. SECTION 3B. Brush, tree limbs, end grass, stmups, rocks, bricks and scrap lumber or iron in a co~mnercial manner shall not be considered garbage and the sanitation department will not re- move same. SECTION ~. Any person violating any provision of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less th~n FIVE DOLL~RS ($5.001 nor more than ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100~00) for each offense; each day's violation of any provision of this ordinance shall constitute a separate offense. SECTION 5. J~ll ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed. SECTION 6.
