2 COVERAGE TO VIRGINIA BEACH CITY
3 EMPLOYEES WHO RETIRE PRIOR TO AGE 65
4 WITH 25 OR MORE YEARS OF SERVICE OR
5 ON A WORK RELATED DISABILITY WITH 5
6 OR MORE YEARS OF SERVICE
7 WHEREAS, under current City policy, City employees who
8 retire on a work-related disability with less than 15 years service
9 are not eligible to continue health care coverage through a City-
10 sponsored health care plan; and

WHEREAS, it is felt that these employees should, through
12 this coverage, be recognized for their service to the City.
13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
14 OF VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA:

That City staff is hereby authorized to make
16 provisions to continue health care coverage to City employees who
17 retire on or after June 30, 1986, before age 65 with 25 or more
18 years of service, and those who retire on a work-related disability
19 compensable under the Worker's Compensation Act on or after July 1,
20 1992, before age 65 with 5 or more years of service, through a
21 Health Maintenance Organization, or other City-sponsored health
22 care plan until they reach age 65, with the same coverage as that
23 provided to City employees.

That this Resolution shall supercede the Resolution
25 adopted by the Council on May 29, 1990, with respect to this same
26 matter.

TO VIRGINIA BEACH CITY EMPLOYEES WHO RETIRE
PRIOR TO AGE 65 WITH AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF
SERVICE CREDIT
WHEREAS, the Mayor and a Council Committee appointed by Council desires
to provide health care coverage to certain retiring employees, and
WHEREAS, it is felt that these employees should, through this coverage,
be recognized for their many years of service to the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA that City staff make provisions to continue health
care coverage to City employees who retire on or after June 30, 1986 before
age 65 with 25 years of service credit through a Health Maintenance
Organization. until they reach age 65. on the same basis as coverage
provided to City employees.
