of speeds upward to 60 m-.p.h. and able to reach
Hagen quickly. Mr. Finch i-esj-londed from Rudee
Inlet aRd effected the rescue of Hagen shortly
thereafter.

On June 19, 1974 at 1:35 p.m., Nvhile on the beach with fr;ends near Wake
Forest Drive, Bonnie Tinl@ham Thornton saved the life of little Shiriey @loon, age 3.
Seeing slight motions on the water's surface near an abandoned surf float, 8Lnd
suspecting a cliild had possibly slipped from the float, Bonnie rushcd ;nto tlie water
to a depth of approximately 'ive feet. Within seconds Bonnie had found the rigid
child under the surface and immediately be,an -nou,,.h to moulh resuscitation while
bringing the iiiiconscious infant to shore. 13cinie conti,,iued th@s procedure on the
