Planning Commission has been requested to review and report on the possibility
of changing the square footage requirements in residential structures on the first
floor in the Residence Suburban District 3 (R-S 3} and Residence Suburban District 4
(R-S 4) district. The Commission met with a committee of the Tidewater Association
of Home Builders and have carefully considered their wishes in this matter.
C Planning Commission recommends t~h~t the zoning ordinance be amended so a

It is also recommended that no dwelling unit in the Residence Suburban Distric:3
(R-S 3) and Residence Suburban District 4 (R-S 4) classification having one story
shall contain less than 1000 square feet of living area, exclusive of garages, un-
enclosed porches, carports, breezeways, or utility rooms.
In the opinion of the Commission, this change will reflect a more pleasing appearance
in the subdivisions and will bring about a more expensive type of home.

Mr. Richard Webbon, Executive Secretary
Board of Supervisors
Princess .~nne County, Virginia
Dear Mr. Webbon:
I request through you to the Board of Supervisors that
building permits be issued to erect in Arrowhead two-story house~.
I havo been refused building permits for these houses, based on
The Code of the County of Princess Anne, Virginia, which states
that the first floor area in an R-S 4 house must h~v~ 800 square
feet.
As the code is now written, it does not provide for a
two-story house to come under a slightly different category, even
though the house I am planning to build is 1,539 square feet, ex-
clusive of garage and storage area of 34? square feet, making the
total gross area 1,886 square feet.
As the code now exists, on an R-S 4 zoning I would be
sermitted to build an 800 square foot one-story house selling for
9,000 but would be prohibited from building a two-story house,
with four bedrooms and 3 baths, selling for approximately ~l?,000.
I am enclosing a letter frc~a my architect, Stanley B.
Brundage, giving me the gross areas of the first floor, second
floor, total square footage, and the square footage of the storage
and garage area.
I am also enclosing a copy of the plan of the proposed
two-story structure which plan I have filed with the Federal
Housing Administrstion to secure commitments to build.
I respectfully request that the Board of Supervisors
review my petition so that I may be granted the opportunity to
build these houses.
