Why Now • Virginia Aquariums' Strong Position • Regional Demographic Changes • Collaboration Opportunities ~ Academic & Economic • Positive Government and Public Attitudes Scope The Aquarium / Owl Creek District will have multiple venues all with a common theme related to the marine and inshore environment. District elements might include: 1. Parks & Recreation o Parks with active and passive recreational opportunities o Preservation areas, trails and outdoor exhibits which bring attention to the shoreline habitat and its changing environment o Provides environmental conservation learning opportunities o Overall pedestrian and multi-use connectivity throughout the study area 2. Amusement & Entertainment o Provide a"several day" visit experience 3. Research & Technology o Partnership with higher education university o Marine Animal Care Center (MACC) o Designated marine science center building 4. Education facilities o Children's Environmental Activity Center o Early Childhood Development Center with a environmental theme o High School Honors summer resident program 5.
