Social media makes it easier, faster and more pervasive to spread misinformation:
Spread of Misinformation
•Social media makes it easier, faster, more pervasive
• Illusory truth effect
• Repetition of false information solidifies it, creates doubt
• Memories mix up real and false information
• Group think, popularity vs. quality ("echo chambers")
•Limits to human brain
• Information overload, short, stretched attention spans
•Less application of critical thinking, lack of media literacy
During the most recent City Council Retreat, Mr. Sumek advised this is a problem all over the Country
and provided some specific cities that have created webpages to combat the misinformation:

Currently, the City has a turnover rate of 6.9% not including retirement. It is most concerning that one-
half of the turnover is with employees with less than five(5)years of service:
Why Revitalization Needs to Occur

There are a variety of reasons change is being considered but most importantly, in two (2) years, 158
employees received donations while only thirty-seven (37) employees received grants from the Sick Leave
Bank:
Extended Sick Leave
Why change?
Hybrid employees are not eligible
Employees use donations more than they use the
Sick Leave Bank
Sick Leave Review Board is exposed to confidential
medical information
Board decisions are based on a formula that requires
access to discipline
The recommendation is to eliminate the Extended Sick Leave Bank and the Review Board:

Recommendations
Eliminate Extended Sick Leave Bank and Review Board
Allow Leave Donations — once all individual leave has
been used, employees solicit leave from co-workers
