Wooten Council Members Absent: None 2 MAYOR'S CALL FOR FORMAL SESSION ITEM#69194 Vice Mayor Wood read the Mayor's Call for the SPECIAL FORMAL SESSION. May 2, 2019 "HONORABLE MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL In accordance with the Virginia Beach City Code, Section 2-21, and by the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Virginia Beach, I hereby call for a SPECIAL FORMAL SESSION of the VIRGINIA BEACH CITY COUNCIL: Tuesday,May 7, 2019 2:30 P.M. City Council Chamber Building 1, City Hall, 2nd Floor 2401 Courthouse Drive The purpose of this SPECIAL FORMAL SESSION is to conduct public interviews for the finalist to fill the vacant Rose Hall District City Council seat. Immediately following, City Council will recess and convene into CLOSED SESSION for discussion. Following the discussion, City Council will return to the City Council Chamber to APPOINT the Rose Hall District City Council Member, and the new member will take the Oath of Office prior to the Mayor's Formal Seating of City Council. Berlucchi Seko Varner Mr. Berlucchi expressed his appreciation to City Council for the opportunity to be considered. Mr. Berlucchi advised since the Rose Hall District vacancy was announced, he has engaged with citizens to gain an understanding of their needs and views on the City and also attended every City Council meeting to be prepared, if appointed, to represent Rose Hall. Mr. Berlucchi advised he is employed by the Chrysler Art Museum and conducts public engagement regularly. A member on both the Human Rights Commission and Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation, he has gained a good understanding of how government works. Mr. Berlucchi promised, if selected as a Council Member, he would contribute to the best of his abilities, his skill, knowledge and influence in the service to the City. Mr. Varner expressed his appreciation to City Council for the opportunity to be considered. Mr. Varner advised as a life-long resident of the Rose Hall District, understands the needs of the citizens and is passionate about helping. He advised he is a strategic thinker with experience in budgeting, business and workforce development. He advised there are solutions to reducing unemployment, homelessness and flooding without raising taxes. Mr. Varner advised he believes in negotiation, collecting factual data before making decisions and strategic creativity to provide more options when looking for solutions.
