I.' NOTICE OF PROPOSED
4' REAL ESTATE TAX RATE INCREASE
The City Council of Virginia Beach, Virginia, at its Special
Session on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at the Virginia Beach
Convention Center,1000 19th Street,Virginia Beach,Virginia 23451,will hold
a public hearing on a proposed ordinance establishing the tax levy on real
estate for the fiscal year 2023.
The City Manager's Proposed Budget includes a proposed tax rate on all real
estate and manufactured homes of one dollar and one and three tenths of a
cent ($1.013) on each one hundred dollars ($100) of assessed valuation
thereof, which is an increase from the current tax rate of ninety-nine cents
($0.99). The amount of the rate increase, two and three tenths of a cent
($0.023),would also apply to historic and energy efficient buildings.
This addition to the tax rate of $0.023 is in lieu of the recommended tax
increase equivalent to $0.043 included in the approved Flood Protection
Bond Referendum passed during the November 2021 election. The
referendum created the legal authority to issue $567.5 million in general
obligation debt to finance a Comprehensive Flood Protection Program.
