Vice Mayor Wilson expressed her appreciation to the Body for their confidence in her to serve as Vice Mayor for a second term. Vice Mayor Wilson advised one of the main tasks of the Vice Mayor's role is working on the annual budget and believes last year's budget was the best she has seen and credited the Body for working so well together. Vice Mayor Wilson expressed her optimism for the Body's continued teamwork going forward. Council Member Holcomb expressed his appreciation to his family for their continuous support over his three (3)decades of public service, adding he would not be able to serve without the support of his family. Council Member Holcomb also expressed his appreciation to those who supported him from District 1 and stated it is sometimes difficult in making decisions as some people will be happy and others will not,adding, he will continue to do his best to represent the citizens of District 1. Council Member Rouse expressed her excitement to serve and her appreciation to the voters in District 10 and her family for their support. Council Member Rouse vowed to collaborate with her colleagues and is looking forward to the opportunity to represent citizens of District 10. Council Member Schulman advised this is a fantastic beginning to what will be a lifetime experience. Council Member Schulman expressed his appreciation to his family and is honored by the voters support in District 9. Council Member Schulman expressed his commitment to serving with an open mind, a light heart and doing what is best for the City. Council Member Wooten congratulated the newly elected City Council Members and Vice Mayor Wilson and advised she looks forward to working with everyone. Council Member Wooten expressed her frustration with the Vice Mayor election process. Council Member Wooten does not believe there really is a process to elect a Vice Mayor and believes a transparent discussion should occur prior to voting which includes the duties of the Vice Mayor and what the track record is of those who are nominated for the position. Council Member Henley advised she would like to address the prospective of what a City Council is; a continuing Body with the Members today standing on the shoulders of those who previously served. Council Member Henley advised prior City Councils have handed this Body an extremely strong and good City to live in with over 460,000 people who are all important, special and have individual needs, in which the Body does it's best to provide. Council Member Henley believes it is the Body's duty to make the City better for the next City Council and is honored to have the responsibility and opportunity. Council Member Ross-Hammond expressed her appreciation to the Body and those in the audience who came to support her. Council Member Ross-Hammond advised she has served the City in various capacities all of her adult life and believes her experience while previously serving as the Kempsville District Council January 3, 2023 8 • ITEM— V-H VICE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS ITEM#73644 (Continued) Member has prepared her with institutional knowledge and familiarity with processes important to getting things done. Council Member Ross-Hammond advised she is committed, enthusiastic and brings an interactive approach that is inclusive for all citizens, not just those in District 4. Council Member Berlucchi welcomed the newly elected Council Members and those in attendance. Council Member Berlucchi advised the Members of the Body are all here for one reason, to serve the citizens and create a path and bright future for everyone to fulfill their potential and goals. Council Member Taylor expressed he would like to first give honor to God, as he would not be here without Him,further expressing his appreciation to his family and the voters of District 8. Council Member Taylor advised his father grew up in the Seatack area and his mother grew up in Little Neck and believes he has a broad perspective of the City. Council Member Taylor advised it is an honor to serve and is committed to fulfilling his campaign obligations of serving all communities, not just those in District 8, serving with civility and decency, as well as working collaboratively with colleagues, constituents and staff. Council Member Remick expressed his appreciation to his wife and the voters from District 6 who supported him. Council Member Remick advised he has been very impressed with the professionalism of his colleagues and staff involved in his orientation process and is appreciative of all the assistance he has been given. Council Member Remick advised he is looking forward to working with staff and expressed his commitment to working with the Body with an open mind and collaborative spirit. January 3, 2023 9 ITEM— V-I MAYOR'S MESSAGE ITEM#73645 Mayor Dyer expressed his appreciation to everyone in attendance to join him in welcoming the newly minted City Council. Mayor Dyer advised the City just celebrated its 60`h Anniversary and is a remarkable City with over 460,000 people who make it strong, a large faith-based community with many different faiths acting as glue to keep people united, it is a safe and livable City with so much to be proud of Mayor Dyer advised over the past few years, the City has come through tragedy and challenges through the collaborative effort of prior Council Members, City leadership that includes Schools, Public Safety and their supporting staff.
