Amanda Barnes,MMC City Clerk PILOT-APRIL 3,2024&APRIL 10,2024 PUBLIC NOTICE INCREASE IN THE SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT FEE The City Council of Virginia Beach,Virginia,at its Special Session on April 17,2024,at 6,00 p.m.at the Virginia Beach Convention Center,1000 19th Street,Virginia Beach,Virginia 23451,will hold a public hearing concerning a proposed ordinance for fee change for fiscal year 2025,in accordance with the Code of the City of Virginia Beach. Virginia State Code§15.2-928 authorizes the City Council to impose fees on residents for providing collection,management,recycling,and disposal of solid waste,recyclable materials,and other refuse. The fee is included in the monthly combined utility bill.The City Council is considering an increase to the waste collection fee for all dwellings and churches receiving City trash and recycling services,effective July 1,2024.The City Council may adopt a monthly charge of up to thirty dollars and fifty-five cents($30.55),an increase of three dollars and five cents,or 11.1%,over the current monthly charge. Information concerning the documentation and justification for the proposed fee increase and the complete ordinance is available for examination by the public at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library during scheduled hours of operation. This information is also available at the City Manager's Office,the City Clerk's Office and the Department of Budget and Management Services,in the City Hall Building,Municipal Center,between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The City Council is considering an increase of the SSD levy in the Schilling Point Neighborhood Dredging SSD to fifty-eight cents($0.58)on each one hundred dollars($100)of assessed valuation, effective Jury 1,2024. This rate is an increase from the current rate of forty and four tenths'cents ($0.404)on each one hundred dollars($100)of assessed valuation.This levy shall be in addition to the real estate tax rate set forth by the General Real Estate Tax Levy adopted by City Council.
