Council Member Rouse advised she and Mayor Dyer attended the Bookmobile Ribbon Cutting Ceremony last Friday that was funded through the Library Foundation's fundraising efforts as well as the Body's approval of$100,000 within the last budget. Council Member Rouse advised the Bookmobile is in service now visiting different communities and can also be requested by calling the Library. The Bookmobile will service anyone who is physically limited to access the Library, including children and the elderly. Council Member Rouse explained it is a very nice air conditioned bus with a classroom, a selection of books people can check out, as well as stadium seating for up to eighteen (18) little children to have story time. Mayor Dyer advised it is these types of outreach services provided by the City's Libraries that add to the quality of life for homebound people and shows the City is a caring city. Council Member Ross-Hammond congratulated VWU President Scott Miller, MOCA's leadership and all the others who worked to see this through to fruition. Council Member Remick agreed with Council Member Ross-Hammond and advised he has heard from several people who have asked what will happen to MOCA's existing property near the Resort Area. Council Member Remick advised the City owns the property and understands MOCA will relocate sometime between eighteen (18)and twenty-four(24) months from now which will provide some time to engage the public for their input and ideas. Council Member Remick added the area is included in the current eighty (80)acre land use study encompassing the Convention, Sports and Visitor Centers. Council Member Berlucchi congratulated MOCA and VWU and believes the educational and cultural partnership will have a huge impact on the City and entire region,further expressing he is excited to see the arts, culture and creative expression that will brought to communities that have not had access to keystone cultural and educational organizations. Council Member Berlucchi referenced MOCA's existing property and believes any process for contemplating the future plans for the site should be very transparent and deliberate.
