"Joash"Schulman David Hutcheson Cal "Cash"Jackson-Green Stacy Cummings Jennifer Rouse January 7, 2025 7 ITEM— V-H VICE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS ITEM#76505 Mayor Dyer welcomed all who were in attendance for taking time to participate in the ceremony today and invited the newly elected and re-elected Council Members to provide comments. Vice Mayor Wilson welcomed all those in attendance, noting that for many, this may be their first time visiting the new City Hall and seeing the Chamber, which she believes is a fitting representation of the City's greatness. Vice Mayor Wilson expressed gratitude to the voters in District 5 for their support, as well as to her family,friends, and volunteers for their contributions. Vice Mayor Wilson also expressed her appreciation to the Body for their confidence in her, highlighting the unanimous vote that granted her an additional term as Vice Mayor, emphasizing her commitment to supporting each member of the Body and serving as a conduit between them. Vice Mayor Wilson acknowledged the upcoming challenges in working on the City's budget but expressed optimism, confident that the Body will be able to collaborate effectively as a team to address these challenges. Council Member Berlucchi expressed his gratitude to everyone watching online, attending in person, or viewing on TV and welcomed all to City Hall. Council Member Berlucchi thanked the voters for their trust in him, his colleagues and City staff, recognizing their hard work in delivering essential services. Council Member Berlucchi emphasized, as a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, he is honored to have the responsibility of serving the community,stressing his commitment to building a brighter future for the City. Council Member Berlucchi acknowledged that while the Body may have disagreements, he is optimistic that collaboration will lead to more moments of agreement and positive outcomes for the City. Council Member Berlucchi made special acknowledgements to his parents,friends,former teachers, and members of the community who have helped and inspired him,adding, he still feels a sense of awe each time he takes his seat and reiterated his dedication to working hard on behalf of all citizens of Virginia Beach. Council Member Cummings expressed his appreciation to God, his family, campaign team and voters for believing in him and his message as well as all of the support each provided. Council Member Cummings advised he will bring a spirit of congeniality and cooperation to every meeting and will collaborate with his colleagues to do what is best for the City. Council Member Cummings advised he has been thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and knowledge from all of City Council's Appointees and their staff and will treat all with the dignity and respect they deserve and as he works hard to address concerns brought to him. Council Member Cummings assured citizens that he will be accessible and responsive to their concerns and their voices will be heard. January 7, 2025 8 ITEM— KH VICE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS ITEM#76505 (Continued) Council Member Hutcheson expressed his appreciation to his wife who has been behind him throughout his career in the Fire Department and the past two(2)elections, as well as his family,friends, Legislative Aide, Campaign Manager and District I voters for all of their support. Council Member Hutcheson expressed his love for the City and his dedication to the residents in District 1, where he was born and raised, and where he spent his 35 year career in the Fire Department, retiring as Fire Chief. Council Member Hutcheson expressed his appreciation to City staff in each department and credited them for making Virginia Beach the best City, adding his commitment to support them and help clear hurdles in order for them to continue doing the best job possible. Council Member Jackson-Green expressed his excitement for making history as District 7 elected a leader who was not born and raised in the City and expressed his appreciation for their trust in him. Council Member Jackson-Green expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve and will work hard every day to fulfill his commitments made during his campaign; to provide District 7 a recreation center, a library, and to have more of a police presence throughout the district. Council Member Jackson-Green advised there was nothing traditional about his campaign as he worked to reimagine whatpolitics look like through his campaign theme, 'people over politics"that he will continue during his service with sincerity. Council Member Jackson-Green expressed his heartfelt appreciation to God, his wife who was also his campaign manager, his supporters and his colleagues for receiving him so well and looks forward to working with his colleagues to get things accomplished January 7, 2025 9 ITEM— V-I MAYOR'S MESSAGE ITEM#76506 Mayor Dyer expressed his appreciation to his wife for her support and providing a loving home that has made all of the difference. Mayor Dyer advised the strength of the Virginia Beach are the thousands of people who live, work, and volunteer their time and talent, that help make the City as one of the most livable, military and veteran friendly, caring and safest cities in this great nation. Mayor Dyer emphasized the importance of positive energy and optimism in moving the City forward, highlighting the roles of City staff, his colleagues and community engagement.Mayor Dyer advised it is important for the Body to work diligently and focus on unity and shared values rather than divisions in order to continue the City's legacy and advised as this new City Council begins the new year, residents can be confident that Council will continue to pursue excellence through hard work and diligence, not taking anything for granted.
