HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025 Virginia Beach Resident Survey Highlights2025 Virginia Beach Resident Survey Highlights August 26, 2025 Phil Aspiras, PhD Performance & Accountability Director Agenda •Purpose and Methodology •Highlights of Major Findings 2 Purpose •To objectively assess resident satisfaction with the delivery of major City services •To help determine priorities for the community •To measure trends from the previous survey •To compare the City’s performance with other communities regionally and nationally 3 Methodology Survey Description •Seven-page survey; takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete •2nd Community Survey conducted Method of Administration •By mail and online to randomly selected sample of City residents Sample Size •Goal: 1,000 completed surveys •Actual: 1,206 completed surveys (over 100 per City Council District) Margin of Error •+/- 2.8% at the 95% level of confidence 4 Location of Survey Respondents •Good representation throughout the City •Demographics of survey respondents reflects the actual population of the City 5 Overall Perceptions Very Positive Perception of Virginia Beach: •Nearly 90%rated overall quality of life as Excellent or Good. •Over 80%rated it as a great place to live and raise children . •75%satisfied with overall City services; only 8% rated them Below Average/Poor. •81% of residents feel safe in Virginia Beach overall. 6 Benchmarking Highlights Virginia Beach outperforms national and regional peers : •Above U.S. average in 41 of 50 service areas. 39 areas rate significantly higher (greater than 3%). •Overall service quality rated 26% higher than national average. •Satisfaction with Virginia Beach as a Place to Live rates 38% above national average. •Customer service satisfaction rated 33% higher than national average. •Rated above the regional average in 36 areas. 33 areas rate significantly higher (greater than 3%). 7 Citywide Satisfaction All geographic areas of the city showed high satisfaction with: Quality of services 8 Citywide Satisfaction All geographic areas of the city showed high satisfaction with: Virginia Beach as a place to live. 9 Citywide Satisfaction All geographic areas of the city showed high satisfaction with: Virginia Beach as a place to raise children. 10 Trends Since 2022 Notable Improvements in Satisfaction: •Quality of cultural and entertainment venues •Feeling of safety in retail areas •Availability of Parks and Recreation programs for children •Feeling of safety in your neighborhood at night •Stormwater Management/Flood Control on neighborhood streets 11 Trends Since 2022 Notable Decreases in Satisfaction: •Efforts to protect natural resources/environment. •Access to Job Opportunities that match your skills •Confidence in City’s ability to meet basic needs during and after a natural/man -made disaster •How well the City is managing growth •Variety of housing options in the City 12 Top 5 Issues Over the Next 3 Years •Affordability of City services/taxes/fees •Housing affordability •Public safety/crime •Flood protection •Homelessness 13 Top Overall Community Priorities Affordable Housing Public Safety Stormwater Management & Flood Control Resident Involvement in Policy & Decision -Making Managing Growth Major Street Conditions Enforcing Junk/Debris Cleanup on Private Property Questions?
